Before becoming a licensed psychologist, Dr. Spiegel was a classical musician and attended the Mannes College of Music in New York City and the Yale University Graduate School of Music. While she learned a great deal about the personal sacrifices and discipline involved in being a successful performer, she also discovered that the life of a solo traveling artist was not for her. However, from her many years as a stage performer, she is well-versed in the pressures of having to produce after many hours of work and practice. Subsequently, she trained for and received her Ph.D. and license in clinical psychology. For over twenty-five years, Dr. Spiegel has worked in various settings that have given her a breadth of experience. She has worked in the hospice setting helping terminally ill patients and families, for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles working with children and adolescents with HIV, hemophilia or brain tumors, at the Pasadena Outpatient Eating Disorders Clinic as an eating disorders specialist, in the college mental health counseling setting (Occidental College), and consistently with a vast array of clients from fifteen to ninety years of age facing all facets of life especially those listed below.

Dr. Spiegel has always been passionate about educating students of all ages interested in Psychology and has taught at the graduate, college and high school levels of education. She has taught at the University of Judaism, the California School of Professional Psychology (now Alliant University) and Pepperdine University. She has also conducted numerous talks, seminars and workshops in elementary, middle, high schools and summer camps for fellow clinicians, teachers, parents and students on topics such as bullying, internet safety, healthy relationships, homework struggles, talking to children and adults about sex and death, eating disorders vs. disordered eating, preparing your child for school transitions and the emotional side of applying/attending college for both high school seniors and their parents. Currently, while working in a specialized private practice, Dr. Spiegel is also teaching Advanced Placement Psychology and is the mental health counselor at deToledo High School working with students, 14 through 18 years of age, as well as the faculty and staff. She enjoys giving talks about today’s high school students and how to help parents and teens manage this incredibly challenging time of life.

On a personal note, Dr. Spiegel has been married for over 33 years and has three adult children.
